Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious trophy on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice in the closing moments to take a shock advantage. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
